Hello there. It’s been a minute since we arrived home from our recent adventures at SXSW, but I felt inclined to give you a quick update on some REALLY cool things that have been happening with Afghan Raiders.

We just found out we will be playing HARD LA Summer Music Festival on August 7, 2010 in Los Angeles alongside Soulwax, Crystal Castles, Diplo, Major Lazer, Digitalism, Erol Alkan, Tiga, The Twelves, and more. We are beyond excited about being a part of this INCREDIBLE lineup of artists.

We just finished recording a cover of David Bowie’s “Fashion,” which will be released on We Were So Turned On: A Tribute to David Bowie on Manimal Records this fall. The track list for this double-disc / double-vinyl release isn’t finalized just yet, but we know we landed a spot on the first disc… score. Other artist who covered Bowie songs for the record include Duran Duran, Carla Bruni, Chairlift, Warpaint, Rainbow Arabia, Swahili Blonde, and many more. All proceeds to go to the charity War Child UK.

We finished up a new remix for VOICEsVOICEs for track called “Tape Noon” which will be released as part of the Sounds Outside – Remix EP on Lefse Records this fall. The remix turned out really great and we’re very excited about on being a part of the release. Stay tuned for more release details on the release.

Lastly, we are still bouncing in and out of the studio working on new originals for a new Afghan Raiders record. We are really having a lot of fun writing and experimenting around with these new tracks and I think you will be pleasantly surprised with how they turn out.

We are hanging at Kevin from Epicsauce’s house in the Lower Haight neighborhood of San Francisco, California, trying to keep it chill before our very chill show tonight at Milk Bar with Neon Indian (DJ Set), Boyz IV Men, and Sweat Wet. I wanted to give you all a quick update on what has been been happening with Afghan Raiders the past couple weeks. Last week we drove out to Austin, Texas for the SXSW Music Festival. We had an amazing run of shows, blasting through four live shows and a DJ set. The response we received with the debut of our new drummer Drew and all our new material was incredible and far beyond our expectations. Austin was really good to us… we met a ton of new friends, drank a lot of free beer, scarfed down insane amount of veggie dogs, and came out of the trip super inspired. We have a couple photo sets to share with you… the first is a photo tour diary of SXSW published by Vegas Seven Magazine, the second is a few photos from our DJ set at the Alternative Press SXSW Anniversary party, and the third is a cool photo montage put together by Neon Monster of all the artists who played at the dubFrequency party.

Hey everyone,

I wanted to take a minute to give you guys a little AR update from the studio. I have been holed up in the lab with Beans the last month producing, writing, and recording demos for a new EP. We started with roughly twenty ideas and from that have carved it down to six of the best. I’ve never been more excited about anything in my professional life and CANNOT wait to share these with everyone. This weekend I’ll be working on some finishing touches on the tracks, and come next week, we will be completely tearing apart our old live set and reinventing the show from the ground up to give you a whole new live experience.
